Previously, at RBW…
2009 was quite a year for RBW. In February the convention changed hands, leaving a brand new team at the reins with brand new ideas on how to run a convention and, in the midst of the recession, they certainly had their work cut out for them.
Of the many interests that the staff at RBW share, music is perhaps the strongest thing that brings the team together. Therefore it's no wonder we chose the musical and cultural revolution of the 60s and 70s as the central theme to RBW 2009. Good Vibrations was born and 226 of you turned out to share it with us.
The convention was held outside of Central London for the first time, at the well appointed Britannia International Hotel in Canary Wharf, London. No more than ten minutes walk from the Docklands Light Railway, the London Underground and even the very pier that the boat party departed from, the Britannia provided us with an excellent location that made it easy for everyone to enjoy themselves.
Saturday night saw 216 party furs climbing aboard the MV Erasmus - possibly the best party boat in the world, never mind the Thames. We cruised up and down the Thames for four hours, partying hard to fantastic company and epic tunes.
Finally, the generosity of everyone at the convention cannot be understated. Over half of you chose to sponsor the convention, either as sponsors or executive members. Thank you! However, it didn't stop there. When it came to the charity auction towards the end of the convention, you raised over £1546 for the UK Wolf Conservation Trust. Well done. An additional £322 was raised during the closing ceremonies, but we don't talk about that >.>;
